And what better way than to choose a competition that doesn’t just benefit you, but also a good cause? You don’t even need to run a marathon to do it. There are so many great, sporty ways that you can raise money for charity without jogging. This means even those who don’t like running, and those who have knee of hip problems can still partake in a sport that benefits everybody.

Interested in what’s out there? Here’s a few top picks.

Top Sporty Challenges to Raise Money for Charity

1.    Tough Mudder

If you’re looking for a fun, exhilarating, and different challenge, Tough Mudder is the best one to sign up for. It’s a fun, unique obstacle course that has you facing your fears in teams of up to six. You’ll be scaling impressive heights, dunking yourself in icy water, and trudging through lots and lots of mud. It’s messy, it’s hilarious, and it’s great fun for the whole family.

People doing this challenge often aim to raise money for charity, so you’ll be having fun and doing good for the wider community while you’re at it. This challenge is also very accessible, with short 1K obstacle courses for kids, all the way up to 15K challenges for those who truly want to put themselves (and their fears) to the test.

2.    Lake District Triple Challenge

This event takes place over two days in the absolutely stunning Lake District, making it an excellent way to explore the beauty of the region, while also staying fit and helping out local charities while you’re at it. This triple challenge includes trekking, biking, and kayaking, meaning no running is necessary. As a participant, the bike and kayak equipment is included in your participation donation, so you don’t need to lug around heavy equipment with you on the trek, either.

3.    National Three Peaks Challenge

This is easily one of the UK’s toughest charity challenges and no, it doesn’t involve running! In this challenge, you hike up each of the three highest peaks in Scotland (Ben Nevis, at 1,345m), England. (Scafell Pike at 978m), and Wales (Yr Wyddfa/Snowden at 1,085m). Don’t worry, as you’ll be with mountain guides. You have 36 hours to complete the challenge (this includes the drives to and from each peak) so if you love hiking, incredible views, and a challenge, this can be the perfect option for you.

4.    London to Brighton Bike Ride

This is a very popular charity bike ride that helps support your pick of charities (for example, you can support Mind or the British Heart Foundation). You can either just pay to sign up, or pledge to fundraise.

In it, you ride from the capital all the way to the coast. This 54-mile trek will have you biking through beautiful countryside and finishes on Brighton Beach, entirely on bike. There is absolutely no time restrictions. You can take as long or as short of a bike trip as you like. Thanks to the time flexibility, this challenge is great for everyone, from beginners to experienced cyclists.
