For fans of English football’s top flight, participating in the Fantasy Premier League is fun over an average season. Adding another layer of entertainment to the football action people watch, it’s always satisfying to see a shrewd pick or a captain’s choice bring in huge points hauls. This season, FPL managers have seen Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah do precisely that.
The Egyptian star has already broken the record for the most FPL points in a season. Alongside building formidable Ultimate Team squads in EA Sports FC and opting to play casino games like Football Champions Cup, Premier League fans have been enjoying backing Liverpool’s talisman since the start of the season. Salah’s 306 points at this stage of the season are remarkable, especially as he beat his previous return in 2017/18, the now second-highest tally of 303 points.
With the season still far from over, Mohamed Salah looks to set to rack up even more points. Already, though, he is in fine company. With that in mind, below is a look at other top performers who also delivered for FPL managers. Please make no mistake about it, though: Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah is the king of the Fantasy Premier League.
Luis Suarez – 295 points
When looking back at the various highlights from the 2013/14 Premier League campaign, Luis Suarez’s performances are impossible to ignore. While Liverpool fans are currently raving about Salah’s output and are desperate for the club to tie him down to a new deal, the Uruguayan was their leading man that year. Suarez turned it on almost every week, and while he missed five games through suspension, he still managed to accumulate 295 points after scoring 31 goals and registering 12 assists in just 33 appearances.
Frank Lampard – 294 points
As far as goalscoring midfielders go, we’ll probably never see anyone like Frank Lampard again. The Chelsea legend and current Coventry City manager had a knack for arriving late in the box and scoring some vital goals for the Blues. Throw in his penalty-taking prowess, and Lampard’s return of 284 points in the 2009/10 season wasn’t a surprise. He scored 22 goals and picked up 14 assists, all of which contributed to a memorable title-winning campaign for the London Giants.
Cristiano Ronaldo – 283 points
The fact Salah has outdone one of the game’s greatest-ever players tells you just how special he is. When Cristiano Ronaldo earned FPL managers 283 points in 2007/2008, not many people expected his points tally to be beaten. The Portuguese star’s 31 goals and six assists were a joy to watch, and he was the key reason why Sir Alex Ferguson’s side won the Premier League that season. Despite being classified as a midfielder in the game that year, Ronaldo’s ability in front of goal made him produce numbers even the competition’s strikers couldn’t match.
Thierry Henry – 271 points
Widely regarded as Arsenal’s greatest-ever player, Thierry Henry managed to accumulate 271 points in the first-ever season of FPL. The Frenchman scored 24 goals and had 20 assists in just 37 games. Henry, the best player in the league then, had magical displays in 2002/03.
Alexis Sanchez – 264 points
After banking 264 points in 2016/17, it was no surprise to see Alexis Sanchez swap life at Arsenal for a move to Manchester United. While things didn’t go to plan at Old Trafford, the Chilean’s final season with the Gunners saw him bag 24 goals and record 10 assists.
