People often buy me hiking gear for special occasions. But I think this particular gift was my favourite ever. For Christmas 2021, I received an Osprey Sirrus 36 women’s hiking bag.
There she is!
Now, I appreciate that almost 3 years has passed since then so it may seem I’m a little late to the party with a review. And subsequently the Osprey Sirrus 36 has been replaced with the Osprey Sirrus 34:

But I stand by the fact that one of the single most important things when it comes to reviewing hiking bags is durability. And after almost 3 years of hiking I feel I can comment fairly on that now.
So, without further ado, here’s my review of the Osprey Sirrus 36.
Osprey Sirrus 36 Review – The Quick Version
It’s a 4.5 out of 5 for me and the only lost half point is down to pricing (not that I’m saying it isn’t worth the investment though).
In fact, I loved this bag so much that I went on in May 2022 to buy myself the smaller Osprey Sirrus 24 version because I wanted the same comfort but with a smaller bag for scrambling days in particular.
Anyway, let’s take a look at the Osprey Sirrus 36 pros and cons.
Osprey Sirrus 36 Pros
- Massively durable
- So much space (it's like a Tardis)
- Comfortable female specific fit
- Loads of compartments
Osprey Sirrus 36 Cons
- Expensive compared to other bags
There is no getting away from the fact that the Osprey Sirrus is at the more expensive end of the market.
But they last. As well as having those really well designed features designed specifically for the female body, my Osprey packs have outlasted any other hiking bag I’ve ever owned. And I really do put them through it!
So I do think it represents value for money.
Special mention for the rain cover which is such a good fit and really easy to take on and off (as well as detach later for drying off).
When I say this bag is like a Tardis, I really mean it. The main compartment opens with a draw string and is absolutely huge. Look at this:
I can get enough in here for an overnight as well with the ability to attach a small bivvy tent to the bag (more than one night would be a push though but ultimately this is designed as a day pack). I can get all my winter kit in here though and also things like my drone and other bits!
One of the front compartments (above) is also huge. Personally I tend to store electrical items in here in a dry bag. Things like my portable charge bank and my head torches go in here for me.
Below this is another compartment (just above the rain cover compartment) too, which is great for things like emergency kit (emergency bivvy bags etc).
And then on top of the bag there is yet another compartment which is massive:
See – Tardis!
Would I Recommend the Osprey Sirrus 36?
If you’re investing in a hiking bag you want to last, then yes. Absolutely. The space is immense, the durability is fantastic and the comfort is second to none.
I don’t think this bag is even available anymore – but it’s been replaced with the Osprey Sirrus 34 which appears to be all but the same with just 2 litres less of storage:
